The New Designers show is opening next week and we’ve had a first-look at some of the new ethical product designers exhibiting at the event.

Among the design graduates who will be showcasing their work is Danny Duquemin Sheil who founded DDQ Design last year. His ‘One Ton Bags’ are sewn together from recycled heavy-duty builders’ delivery sacks, which would otherwise be sent to landfill. Each one is unique, functional and hard wearing – one to take on any supermarket trip, we reckon.

Another designer we love is Hayley Dix (see our image above), who creates drawings that are inspired by the natural environment using annealed black steel wire and found wood.

Also exhibiting at the show will be Fine Cell Work, a prison charity that encourages the inmates of HM Prisons to learn needlepoint and embroidery. Fine Cell Work will be creating a collage of stitched squares for the show, that feature words from the prisoners and messages from the show to those inside.

New Designers is presented over two weeks and features a whole range of contemporary design products, from ceramics and glass to furniture and applied art.
